Thought provoking...I don't think the ladies on the right realized their pictures were going to be contrasted to the children on the left...their 'turmoil' is shopping stress, while the children's turmoil is starvation.
Unless these children were in my path everyday I would not be thinking about them. I too would be worried about my shopping lists, etc. When they show up like this then I am forced to think about it and perhaps take action.
A good friend of mine has a button that says "Live simpler so others may simply live." Maybe I need to pay heed to that a bit more. Maybe I can take a moment and see how overly blessed I am and instead of buying 'one more' thing for someone else I can do something for someone I don't know. This time of year often brings these issues into focus but come March you won't see them as much...
That is one of the best comments I've seen about this photo. I wish you left your name so I knew who said it!
That picture hits you hard, doesn't it? I agree with anonymous - it's definitely easier to remember those who are less fortunate at Christmas time. There are always lots of ways to donate, help, give, etc. I think the trick is remembering all year long and trying to make it a regular part of your life. My sister in law set up a special cardboard box in her house, and her family has been adding to it over the past few months. Now that December is here, they are sewing drawstring bags, filling them with hygiene items, and donating them to the homeless shelter. I thought that was a great way to keep the focus on others for a lot longer than just the days right around Christmas.
