OK, feeling better about my choice...

This morning I heard from my salesman, Rudy, at Lowe's about my new washer and dryer.

The good news is that they will be delivered next weekend!

I explained my concerns with some of the reviews I read online last night and he was very honest that, yes, previous generations of these models had had some of those issues, but that they have been dealt with. The model I bought is on its 3rd generation and has only been out for 3 months.

I feel better! Still, I'm glad that I opted to buy the extended warranty--which I usually shy away from--just because it is a relatively new machine and I want to be covered for those 5 years.

I do think everything's going to work out OK.

I am in the same boat: bought the pair, then read the reviews online, and am very concerned and I think I'm going to cancel. Plus, you have to use HE detergents only, and this thing doesn't even have a soak cycle. Do you know if you can pause the washer once it fills, in case you want to soak stuff? Also have you heard about the dreaded error f51 that has plagued these washers?

Well, of you read my post, the machines I bought are a more recent generation than those with those problems. My salesman has been very upfront with me as I have voiced my concerns, so I'm going to hang in there. Whirlpool still gets the highest ratings out there. And yes, you can pause the cycle to let things soak or add items. As far as high efficiency detergent, you can also use regular detergent but just 25% the amount, which saves on detergent. And this is because the washer uses 50% of the water. I'm still going to hang in there and not obsess or worry until there is something to worry about. Bottom line, the new machines are not made to last as long as our mom's old machines. Sad, but true.

Here's hoping your new purchase turns out to be a great one! My washer is showing signs of decline, so I'll be interested to see what you think of yours. I might be in the market for one soon...

Thanks for replying to my initial comment, Kristie. I canceled my order yesterday. I normally do a lot of upfront research but did not on this one. I have never seen such a high percentage of negative internet comments from prior customers about a product line. Even the people who liked their Cabrio washer complained of having to straighten out all their clothes before putting them in the dryer, of having their clothes ripped to shreds, about the clothes not always coming clean, about the HE detergent, etc. Glad to see you can pause it for soaking, though. I realize some of the internet comments were about earlier-generation models, and I realize that usually it's only unhappy people who post comments about their product purchases, but the overwhelmingly negative track record just did not sit well with me. I'll be very interested to see how it is going for you six months to a year out, as the idea of conserving water and electricity is big for me. btw my current Whirlpool (not my mom's!) has lasted 20 years with nary a problem. I probably got lucky there :) Thanks.

You're welcome. I did not cancel my order and still plan to give them a try. Despite the lack of research I did, I still feel OK about my choice, especially because I don't do high volumes of laundry.
